6f (Ambience) Helene Dyhr posed as the model for this painting. As far as ambience painting goes, the forest is by the historical Hammerværket in Grejsdalen, Vejle, Denmark. We both live and work there, and agree that the place has a certain character steeped in history; and in a way that cannot easily be explained. The location has its own micro climate and sometimes it is as if you have fours seasons in one day. The idea here was to capture that together with Helene’s personality, her sense of connection to the area as well as the nordic light conditions.
A few things are peculiar in this composition. The horse is semi transparent as if an apparition. Then there are two light sources at Hammerværket, and that never happens in nature unless one is the sun, and the other is an indirect source such as reflection from sun or a direct light source such as fire. In addition, you cannot find that many works of art out there that has snow in mid air, but for this particular painting it somehow had to be included.
