4E (Daksha) sets the mood with various shades of brown. A lot could be said about the meaning of brown. E.g. Brown is often seen as solid and natural, much like the earth. It is also a colour associated with resilience, dependability, security, and safety.
More importantly brown gives warmth to the painting and works in harmony with the beautiful skin tones that show no sign of being melanin-depleted. This woman looks gentle towards us and you might notice she is wearing paisley patterned top in brown, and is wearing traditional gold and pearl jewellery.
There is no concept here other than providing you with a somewhat calming depiction of a beautiful woman and to give the work the aesthetic qualities that I intended.
Daksha is an Indian girl name which both means Earth and the honest one. Before you ask, this is a not a portrait of Daksha Nagarkar, though there might be a slight likeness. Confusingly, for a westerner at least, Daksha is a he in Hinduism but is is little like abbriviating Samantha or Jacqueline as ‘Sam’ and ‘Jackie’ which could be confused with men.
