0D (Holographic Companion) is a painting about holography, or rather a work of art that examines picture jamming in holographic representations.
we do not have to look far for inspiration and contexts. TeleHuman2 , for instance is 360-degree and a very convincing digitally constructed light illusion. In addition, holograms have made regular appearance in Star Wars, and they feature in both Blade Runner and in particularly in Bladerunner 2049.
The latter presented the glitch or playback stutter of animated 3D characters in an abandoned casino. It made me laugh quietly inside, because it is so spot on. For all the awesome technology there is out there — and will be in the future, one thing is for certain. Shit always happens – things do not work perfectly all the time.
Holograms have some tough constraints. Contours always look phoney, symmetry proves harder than it sounds, shadows must be compensated for, and light has a fall off. This painting displays a frozen but otherwise animated 3D representation of a woman. She is stuck in an unintended glitch effect.
