1F (Everyday life in the city) is a painting of a young woman in Copenhagen. As a passerby, She is really caught up in her own thoughts and she is wearing a warm coat fit for the season. She has just taken escalators the few flights up to this vantage point where you can view across Slotsholmen. The architecture you see, is the interior of the Black Diamond. The building is a venue for cultural events such as art exhibitions and music concerts. But just as importantly, it houses the Royal Library, which is the national library of Denmark as well as the university library of the University of Copenhagen.
As a part of the series Nord, this painting has the job of capturing a characteristic mood and atmosphere somewhere in a Nordic country. In this case, a painting of a young woman in Copenhagen. A close up of someone being that close calls for a certain level of detail to be convincing. So there was some meticulous work in showing the skin in great detail as well as the structure of the woven fabric.
