This is an alternative wedding painting. 8i (Long Wedding Night) was painted as an ironic take on the great many expectations there is to a wedding, including the notion that the wedding night should be something spectacularly significant. All that it involves to plan and host a wedding is well and truly staggering. Not to mention exhausting. When you are finally a couple in private again, you have been awake for many hours having eaten, drunk and danced your heart out.
The facial expression on the bride conveys that story. Happy, greatful, relieved and looking forward to decent night’s sleep. The bride is probably wearing nothing but her tiara. You see her with a strawberry in her mouth, hair in a mess and smudged mascara round her tired eyes.
Weddings are beautiful events, and brides somehow always manage to look like fairytale princesses on the day, which I find astounding. If you are interested in a wedding painting, do not fret about asking. My paintings do not have to be satire or ironic in nature like this one. I tend to work developing my own ideas and concepts, but am open to input and do take on portrait work with great joy.
